It is owned by the company Vivendi, it's previous parent company however was Universal that owned the company from 1996 until 2006.

The company vivendi produces products that will be shown on television, adverts and video games, this will allow the music that is produced under the Universal Music Group label to have easy access to other media products, this will ultimately help the artist/band achieve a higher fame status and gain money out of this. This music sharing strategy will ensure that both Artist, Record Label and Parent Company will gain a profit out of it, be it money or publicity.
